Been watching the Emerald conspiracy threads a bit, its kind of amusing how some people actually believe I am still involved in the project. They clearly don’t know much about me if they believe I would allow for the current situation if I had any intent of maintaining any control whatsoever. Then again, those same people think Emerald is dying, which is hardly what was indicated by the Emerald login stats as they stood before my access ended (although I suppose its possible that afterward the Emerald Committee of Transparency blew everything up). I don’t expect Emerald to flat line any time soon. It might die a slow death by stagnation, due to a loss of direction or talent, but it would take a much more intelligent opposition than it has ever had so far to do any material damage to it from the outside.
Really it wasn’t the first time I had considered leaving the project; I came close to doing it once before. Keeping everything on track in something of that scale is not as fun as some might lead you to believe, and I was quite tired of it. That coupled with the insistence of some of the developers that my leaving was the “only way to save Emerald” led me to say “what the hell, have fun” and allow them the opportunity to demonstrate.
Some people have complained that Arabella was the one to whom control, in the technical sense, was switched to. While I recognize the complaints I fail to see anyone suggesting what a better choice would have been. Everyone in the Emerald development team was there because of some outstanding talent. However, those talents did not necessarily imply any competence at being a leader; of the choices available, discounting the “unworthy/unclean” (according to idiots), Arabella was the best of the remainder.
The modularsystems.sl site will probably go dead or be used as a redirect or something, whatever they choose to do with it, I’m not particularly concerned. When it comes time to renew it I’m not sure what I’ll do. The name annoyed me anyway, it was originally a rather random choice for a inworld group name for a scripted weapon 3+ years ago, and has long outlived its usefulness.
Some of you noticed I haven’t logged in SL in a while.
I’ve been busy working on my next project. I have liquidated my sim and all my inworld assets. I’ll probably never log onto the account Fractured Crystal again unless I find I have some unfinished business there. It has, much like Modular Systems, outlived its usefulness. Of course, you are welcome to IM me if you think there is a good reason for me to log in once again. I receive all IMs to my email so I have gotten all the supportive messages that I have been sent (thank you for those).
Maybe I’ll see some of you around sometime in the future.
I told Chestnut I was going to make a blog and title my first post “Chestnut Rau is a delicious kitty”, and she said she didn’t think I’d do it. So I’m going to shamelessly imitate her posting style where she does the whole post and a picture.
So yeah, I’m making a blog (again). Don’t feel like making this one a sub domain on http://modularsystems.sl/ at the moment though.
I went and made a nice post on Emerald Viewer related statistics over on the main blog at http://blog.modularsystems.sl/2010/07/19/emerald-user-statistics/.
Apparently I scare people because I am “unpredictable”. (or so I’m told) I happen to think I’m quite predictable, but hey.
Will post more later o.o
